The general objectives of the European Day of Languages are to alert the public to the importance of language learning and to promote language learning in school.
The Dingle school is currently learning Spanish with teacher Lucia Atencia who decided to enter the 5th and 6th year classes in this year’s competition.
“We came up with the idea of a pilgrim setting out on the Camino to travel to Santiago de Compostela because of the links between Dingle and Spain. We made the video in the school yard and the ‘pilgrim’ met other ‘pilgrims’ along the way and they greeted each other in 10 different languages. Our ‘pilgrim’ was dressed in suitable costume and carried a scallop shell and a stick. The children really enjoyed the experience but it took us 10 hours to make the one minute clip!” she told The Kerryman.
The winning video clip has earned the school €500 worth of book tokens.
